映画はJames Sallis (2005) "Drive" Mariner Books (ジェイムズ・サリス、鈴木恵訳[2012] 「ドライブ」ハヤカワミステリ文庫）が原作で、デンマーク出身のニコラス・ウィンディング・レフン(Nicolas Winding Refn)監督http://intro.ne.jp/contents/2012/03/27_2045.html、ライアン・ゴスリング(Ryan Gosling)の主演で撮影され、高い評価を得ている。原作のストーリーは映画ではかなり書き換えられており、原作を忠実に映画化しているわけではない。映画では主人公のドライバーはほとんどしゃべらず、どういう背景のどういう人物なのか明示的な説明はされない。ナレーションによる解説や説明などはなく、登場人物の行動のみによって映画は進行する。原作には主人公の家族などの背景知識が書かれているので、原作を読めばそのあたりの理解を深めることができる。音楽はインストルメンタルをクリフ・マルティネス、挿入歌その他の楽曲をJohnny Dewelが中心となったバンド、グループ("Night Call"- Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx, "Under Your Spell" - Desire, "A Real Hero" - College Featuring Electric Youth)で担当している。

クリフ・マルティネスはドラマーでレッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズ (Red Hot Chill Peppers)のメンバーだったこともある。代表作にはサウンドトラックにはスティーヴン・ソダーバーグ(Steven Soderbergh)監督の「セックスと嘘とビデオテープ」("Sex, Lies & Videotape")、「カフカ」("Kafka"、「惑星ソラリス」("Solaris")等があり、アンビエント的な音響で知られている。ブライアン・イーノ(Brian Eno)の「アポロ」("Apollo")のような作品に近いといえる。印象的なメロディが残るような作品ではなく、登場人物の感情に寄り添った音が、静かに共振するとでも言うような、ノンビートの曲が多い。アンビエント、チルアウト、特にイーノやハロルド・バッド(Harold Budd)あたりが好きな人には聞いてみることを強く勧める。
